The Thayan Red Wizards
Thay is one of the most prominent powers in the Realms. The Red Wizards handled the country with several leaders until the spellplague happened and they got forced to serve under a powerful unique ruler. The arcanists have been attacking Aglarond for a long time, interested in the Yuirwood, the magical resources and the exotic reagents available, for don't mention the slaves, the need to keep their state alive.
In the past, the Simbul, one of the most powerful spellcasters in the Realms, fought against Thay and kept them away, but now, the Simbul is no more and their last attack was only frustrated by an unusual alliance where pirates and some unseen powers, gathered to defeat them.
The Tower was part of the old Thayan power before the spellplague. When they sensed how the magical tapestry was about to crumble, they weaved powerful rituals and saved themselves... the Tower was protected against the terrible magical maelstrom... but they didn't understood fully what the magic was doing. The building resisted the spellplague, but it got torn out from space and time, fading into nothingness... until now.
Life of the Thayan Red Wizards:
The thayans are back, but they have been away from the world for a long time and everything they knew, is now different. The government in Thay has changed, the Simbul is dead and Yuirwood seems more alive than ever. This secret settlement in now populated and the magical nodes, conquered. The wizards are isolated, facing magical problems they had never imagined and with a tense relationship with the new Thay government. But, even when they can be in problems, they are smart, powerful and have long terms plans.
The wizards live within, focusing on their defenses and rebuild their magical power. After months observing and plotting, they are contacting the local criminals, trying to lure influential people into her manipulative webs and summoning dark entities. But the island hides secrets, powers they ignore and mysteries, so their schemes could be crushed if they are not careful enough. Of course, the main menace on their plots could be their own ambitions. The wizards have different plans, interests and ideas on how to obtain what they want. And sometimes, those plans work against each other...
The wizards usually shave their hair and don't allow their slaves to do the same, so they can easily identify them, but the situation here is quite different. They are small in numbers, so they are careful in wear the red robes and some even have allowed the hair to growth, so they can infiltrate in other places or deal with pirates without raise alarm. As much as they need for new blood hurt their pride, they know they need to open their ranks to others or be crushed by the numerous foes.
The current situation:
Since the Castle appeared, the island is shaken. The conflict between the growing Yuirwood and Delthuntle city has now a new adversary and even when the Wizards are careful, open conflicts have happened here and there and those, seem only the beginning.
The wizards are organized in a hierarchy but they are few and smart, so they are flexible and centered in their quest for power and domination. They are frequently using magic, disguises and bribes to walk around the island, even to the point to set truces with the Yuirwood Circle under certain circumstances like the recent monster attack on the coast. Even when minor scale conflicts are frequent, they are trying to set spies, conquer influence points and get everything ready, to raise in power.
Right now, the wizards are in constant battle against the Yuirwood to control the magical nodes on the island and have some minor skirmishes with pirates and Delthuntle for resources, slaves or lands. They are open to bargain with shadow fey, spread lycanthropy and set dark pacts to earn their goals. The question now is there is anyone able to interfere with such plans.
